My music education.
I trained in the UK, completing a BA (Hons) in Music focused on Guitar Performance. My studies covered technique, harmony, reading, and both classical and contemporary repertoire, with modules in arranging, studio work, and ensemble directing.
I later earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Education, specialising in one-to-one instrumental teaching-planning lessons, assessing progress, and adapting methods for different ages and goals. Professional development: masterclasses with UK guitarists across jazz, rock, and fingerstyle, workshops on improvisation, fretboard fluency, and using technology in lessons.
My music experience as a guitarist.
I’ve performed across venues in Demo and around the UK. As a session guitarist, I’ve recorded parts for independent artists. Live, I work with function bands, jazz trios, and original projects, covering acoustic fingerstyle and electric styles across rock, pop, blues, indie, and jazz.
I’ve also played in pit bands for musical theatre, coordinating with MDs and following cues precisely. On the technical side, I’m comfortable with in-ear monitoring, amp modelling, and pedalboard programming.
My work as a guitar teacher in Demo.
I teach in Demo and online, working with beginners to advanced players of all ages. My lessons are one-to-one or small group, and I’ve also taught as tutor in schools. Each student gets a clear plan: technique, repertoire, theory, ear training, reading, improvisation, and tone shaping. I set achievable weekly goals, share practice routines, and track progress.
Exam preparation is a regular part of my teaching (Trinity and RSL) tailored to the route that fits your style and goals. I also support GCSE and A-Level performance coursework, audition prep, and band coaching. I’m experienced with adaptive strategies for different learning needs and keep communication open with parents/guardians when teaching younger students.
Guitar lessons structure.
In a typical lesson, we start with a brief check-in to review progress and set one clear aim for the session. I move straight into a focused warm-up to calibrate posture, touch, and coordination, then a short theory block that’s practical and tied to today’s goal. I connect that theory and the technique work to the music we’ll play, so the next step – song work – feels natural and purposeful. Most of the lesson is spent on repertoire: isolating tricky sections, looping, refining timing and tone, and building confidence.
We then do a full play-through with attention to dynamics, feel, and musicality, followed by quick, actionable feedback. I finish by outlining a targeted practice plan for the week so you know exactly what to do between lessons. For 30 or 45 minute sessions, the flow stays the same but each segment is tighter. Around exams, auditions, or gigs, I shift more time to mock performances while keeping a brief technique and theory touchpoint.

EXTRAS
Play-along - Backing tracks - Tuning - Song learning
Lessons focus on practical guitar skills you can use right away. We build solid technique (right/left-hand coordination, alternate picking, fingerstyle, bends, vibrato), tight rhythm and timing (strumming patterns, subdivisions, funk comping), and fretboard fluency using positions, CAGED, scales, and arpeggios. Theory is always musical and applied—chords and progressions, harmony, modes, ear training—and we read from tab, chord charts, and lead sheets. You’ll learn how to improvise, shape your tone, choose/use gear, and practise efficiently with clear routines.
Musically, we cover rock, pop, blues, indie, funk, acoustic fingerstyle, and jazz foundations, with room to explore your favourites. We perform and rehearse with a metronome and high-quality backing tracks so you can lock in time, try ideas safely, and build confidence for band settings. I provide tailored play-along tracks and slowed-down loops for home practice, plus guidance for recording takes at home.
Guitar lesson types.
ELECTRIC GUITAR
Electric guitar lessons focus on sound and technique. We build tight rhythm and confident lead work—alternate picking, bends, vibrato, slides, legato, palm-muting, and riff mechanics. You’ll develop fretboard fluency, scales and arpeggios for improvisation, and reading from tab and lead sheets. We shape tone with pickups, amps, gain staging, EQ, and pedals so your parts sit in the mix.
ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acoustic guitar lessons focus on musical, portable playing: solid strumming, groove, and clean chord changes for reliable song accompaniment. We explore fingerstyle patterns, picking, arpeggios, and percussive touches; expand chord vocabulary, and move from open to barre shapes. You’ll learn dynamics, timing with click, and tasteful embellishments (hammer-ons, pull-offs, fills).
CLASSICAL GUITAR
Classical lessons develop elegant tone, secure technique, and musical interpretation. We start with posture and hand position, then build right-hand control and left-hand fluency. You’ll read standard notation, refine rhythm, and shape phrasing and dynamics. If you’d like grades, we prepare for ABRSM/Trinity, including scales, sight-reading, and aural skills.
